Tankarna p\u00e5 det jag har framf\u00f6r mig for runt runt i huvudet. Mest tankar om planering och vad jag beh\u00f6ver ha med mig, men det sm\u00f6g sig \u00e4ven in tankar om hur jag ska klara av loppet. Det \u00e4r mindre \u00e4n en vecka kvar tills det jag hoppas blir en milstolpe i mitt l\u00f6parliv. Jag ska st\u00e4lla mig p\u00e5 startlinjen i TEC 100. Ett 100 miles-lopp. Drygt sexton mil l\u00f6pning. Det k\u00e4nns egentligen helt orimligt. Samtidigt k\u00e4nns det rimligt, eftersom jag vet att m\u00e5nga tusen personer med betydligt mindre l\u00f6parerfarenhet \u00e4n jag tagit sig an betydligt tuffare lopp som \u00e4r b\u00e5de l\u00e4ngre och med fler h\u00f6jdmeter. Om de kan, borde jag kunna.<\/p>\n<p>Historien har ju visat om och om igen att m\u00e5nga av de fysiska begr\u00e4nsningar vi tror oss ha bara \u00e4r mentala. Det klassiska exemplet \u00e4r 4-minutersgr\u00e4nsen p\u00e5 en engelsk mil. V\u00e4rldsrekordet p\u00e5 4.01,3 hade inte rubbats p\u00e5 drygt 10 \u00e5r och m\u00e4ngder av experter hade uttalat sig om att det var fysiskt om\u00f6jligt f\u00f6r en m\u00e4nniska att springa fortare. N\u00e4r den 25 \u00e5riga Roger Bannister 6 maj 1954 spr\u00e4ngde 4-minuters gr\u00e4nsen med tiden 3:59,4 bevisade han experterna fel. Efter 4-minutersgr\u00e4nsen var spr\u00e4ckt tog det bara sex veckor innan rekordet s\u00e4nktes ytterligare av John Landy till 3.57,9 och 1960 hade 26 personer sprungit under 4 minuter p\u00e5 den engelska milen.<\/p>\n<p>Ett eget exempel jag tagit med mig ang\u00e5ende att flytta gr\u00e4nser fick jag i juni 2013. D\u00e5 tr\u00e4ffade jag Hans-Dieter fr\u00e5n Tyskland p\u00e5 ett t\u00e5g fr\u00e5n St Moritz till Davos. Jag var d\u00e4r f\u00f6r att springa Swiss Alpine och det var \u00e4ven den d\u00e5 blott 74 \u00e5r unge Hans-Dieter. Jag var v\u00e4ldigt orolig f\u00f6r vad det skulle inneb\u00e4ra att springa 78 km i de schweiziska alperna i 30 graders v\u00e4rme, medan han s\u00e5g det som en fin dag i bergen som inte skulle inneb\u00e4ra n\u00e5gra st\u00f6rre problem om man bara anpassade farten efter f\u00f6rh\u00e5llandena. Jag kom (n\u00e4stan) helskinnad i m\u00e5l och Hans-Dieter kom i m\u00e5l ett tag efter mig, men det var inte s\u00e5 stor skillnad, trots att han var 25 \u00e5r \u00e4ldre \u00e4n jag. Det var det dittills tuffaste lopp jag genomf\u00f6rt.<\/p>\n<p>Dagarna f\u00f6re Swiss Alpine sa min fru att jag var likblek av oro. En oro som jag uppt\u00e4ckte sl\u00e4ppte helt n\u00e4r jag v\u00e4l b\u00f6rjade springa. F\u00f6r mig var loppet en mental barri\u00e4r jag klarade av, men framf\u00f6rallt blev jag starkt influerad av att se att det inte finns n\u00e5gra gr\u00e4nser f\u00f6r vad som \u00e4r m\u00f6jligt att genomf\u00f6ra l\u00e5ngt efter pensions\u00e5ldern. Jag hade s\u00e5klart l\u00e4st tidigare om \u00e4ldre personer som genomf\u00f6rt fantastiska saker, men att sj\u00e4lv tr\u00e4ffa en person som inte l\u00e4t sig hindras av f\u00f6rest\u00e4llningar om \u00e5lder och inte alls var orolig inf\u00f6r det han skulle g\u00f6ra, gjorde stort intryck. Hans-Dieter blev en fantastisk inspiration och f\u00f6rebild jag tagit med mig i livet och som jag ofta t\u00e4nker p\u00e5.<\/p>\n<p>Nu \u00e4r det inte speciellt stora likheter mellan att sl\u00e5 ett oslagbart v\u00e4rldsrekord som 25 \u00e5ring och att som femtioplussare springa 16 mil. Min nya utmaning \u00e4r kanske l\u00e4ttare att j\u00e4mf\u00f6ra med att som 74-\u00e5ring springa n\u00e4stan 80 km i 30 graders v\u00e4rme i alperna, dvs det jag ska g\u00f6ra borde vara l\u00e4ttare. Jag t\u00e4nker \u00e4nd\u00e5 att jag har nytta av att vara medveten om hur mentala barri\u00e4rer kan upplevas som verkliga fysiska begr\u00e4nsningar. Jag t\u00e4nker f\u00f6rs\u00f6ka g\u00e5 in i loppet med \u00f6ppet sinne, se p\u00e5 planeringen jag gjort som n\u00e5got jag har att luta mig mot men som kan beh\u00f6va f\u00f6r\u00e4ndras f\u00f6r att anpassa mig till yttre f\u00f6ruts\u00e4ttningar, kroppens reaktioner och mina tankar och k\u00e4nslor under loppet. N\u00e4r jag k\u00e4nner mig likblek av oro inf\u00f6r loppet, t\u00e4nker jag p\u00e5 Swiss Alpine 2013 och att det k\u00e4ndes bra direkt jag b\u00f6rjade springa, f\u00f6r att lugna sinnet en aning. Det jag t\u00e4nker nu \u00e4r att jag faktiskt konkret beh\u00f6ver ta tag i lite av den praktiska planeringen jag har kvar, som att g\u00f6ra en detaljerad packlista och skriftliga instruktioner till supporten.
